HOW IT WORKS

Melbourne's Independent Electric Motor Specialist

HankeMotor is an independently operated electric motor business based in Glen Waverley, Melbourne. We supply single phase motors, three phase motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), rotary screw and piston air compressors, worm gearboxes, diesel generators, and air blowers — all stocked and dispatched from our physical warehouse at Unit 1, 28 Aristoc Rd, Glen Waverley VIC 3150.

Our Glen Waverley warehouse is staffed by experienced technicians who can confirm the correct motor frame size, power rating, or VFD pairing before you order. We are reachable on 0401 634 280, Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm.

We have been supplying Melbourne tradespeople, engineers, farmers, and small businesses for over 10 years. Our GMYL and GL/YX3 motor series are stocked in depth — not drop-shipped on demand.

Single Phase vs Three Phase — Which Motor Do You Need?

The single most common question we answer on the phone: which type of motor should I order? The answer depends on your power supply and your load.

Single Phase Motors — GMYL Series (240V)

Single phase motors run on a standard 240V household or light commercial supply — the right choice when your premises has no three-phase connection. Most farms, residential workshops, and older commercial tenancies fall into this category. The GMYL series covers 0.25kW to 5.5kW (0.33HP to 7.5HP). Typical applications: water pumps, band saws, grain augers, small air compressors, conveyor belts. For loads above 5.5kW, single phase is not practical — at that power level, starting current on a 240V circuit exceeds most residential switchboards.

Three Phase Motors — GL / YX3 Series (415V)

Three phase motors (415V) are more efficient, run cooler, and last longer than single phase equivalents at the same power rating. They are standard for industrial and commercial premises with a three-phase supply. Our GL and YX3 series run from 0.12kW to 37kW , covering small conveyor drives through to large industrial fans, compressors, and machine tool spindles.

Running a Three Phase Motor on Single Phase Supply — VFD Method

A VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) accepts 240V single phase input and outputs 415V three phase — making a three phase motor usable in a residential workshop with no three-phase connection. Three phase motors at equivalent kW ratings are cheaper to run, generate less heat, and last longer than single phase alternatives. The VFD also provides soft-start protection, reducing starting current and mechanical shock, and enables full speed control. The trade-off: a VFD adds to the initial cost and must be sized to at least the motor's kW output. Call 0401 634 280 to confirm the right pairing before ordering.

Warranty Coverage and Australia-Wide Delivery

Every motor we sell carries a 12-month warranty. Air compressors and VFDs are covered by a 24-month warranty. Warranty service is handled through our Glen Waverley warehouse — you deal directly with us, not a third-party service centre.

We dispatch via Fastway Courier, TNT, and Couriers Please. Most metro Melbourne orders arrive within 1–3 business days from dispatch. Regional VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, and WA orders are shipped Australia-wide. For heavy items such as large air compressors, contact us for a freight quote before ordering.

We also list on eBay and Gumtree. Click-and-collect from Glen Waverley is available by arrangement — call 0401 634 280 to confirm stock before visiting.

When HankeMotor Is Not the Right Fit

If you need motor repair or rewinding: We sell new equipment only. For context on cost: a new GMYL single phase motor starts around $254; professional motor rewinding for a comparable frame typically costs $200–$400 plus labour. For motors under 3kW that are over five years old, replacement is often cheaper and faster. We do not offer rewinding — contact a specialist rewind shop for repair work.

If you need branded motors (Toshiba, WEG, ABB, Siemens): We supply our own GMYL and GL/YX3 series, not major-brand OEM units. If your spec requires a named brand, we are not the right supplier.

If you need more than 20 units of a single model: Contact us before ordering online. Bulk availability and lead times vary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a three phase motor if I only have single phase power at home?

Yes. A VFD accepts 240V single phase input and outputs 415V three phase, making a three phase motor usable on a standard household circuit. This is widely used for home workshop lathes, milling machines, and larger air compressors. The VFD must be rated to at least the motor's kW output. Call 0401 634 280 to confirm the right pairing from our current stock.

What is the difference between the GMYL and the GL/YX3 motor series?

GMYL series: single phase, 240V, 0.25kW to 5.5kW — for use where no three phase supply is available. GL and YX3 series: three phase, 415V, 0.12kW to 37kW — for industrial and commercial premises with a three phase connection. Three phase motors are more efficient at equivalent power ratings and have a longer service life.

Is HankeMotor the same business as Cononmotor.com.au?

No. HankeMotor (hankemotor.com.au) and Cononmotor.com.au are two separate, independently operated stores with their own product listings and customer service teams. HankeMotor contact: phone 0401 634 280, email hankemotors@gmail.com. If you have an order query, please contact the store you ordered from directly.

Do you offer motor repair or rewinding services?

No. HankeMotor supplies new motor and drive equipment only. No rewinding, repair, or service work is offered.

How quickly will my motor be dispatched?

In-stock items are typically dispatched within 1–2 business days from our Glen Waverley warehouse via Fastway Courier, TNT, and Couriers Please. Metro Melbourne orders generally arrive within 1–3 business days from dispatch; regional and interstate orders vary.
