Rotary Screw Compressor
HankeMotor supplies rotary screw air compressors for workshops and industrial compressed air systems, including oil-injected, variable speed and fixed-speed models from 7.5HP to 50HP. Choose by CFM, pressure, motor power and power supply, with quote support and freight from Melbourne.
Price Comparison - What the Same Spec Costs Elsewhere
HankeMotor's pricing sits well below major Australian retail chains for equivalent specifications. A 5.5KW belt drive unit in this range lists at $5,103. Comparable new units from national tool retailers are priced significantly higher. At 11KW, HankeMotor's direct driven model is $7,039 against a comparable retail listing at approximately $13,299.
The price difference reflects the import-direct supply model rather than a difference in specification category. Both are oil-injected rotary screw units rated for 415V three-phase continuous duty. If budget is the deciding factor between proceeding now or waiting, the pricing gap here is material.
AIO Models - The Real Cost When You Add Dryer and Tank
The integrated AIO premium looks larger than it is when viewed as compressor-only pricing. The 11KW AIO at $12,000 versus the 11KW direct drive at $7,039 is a $4,961 gap - but that comparison is incomplete.
Adding the components required to make the direct drive unit production-ready:
- Refrigerated air dryer (matched to 11KW / 60 CFM output): approximately $1,500-$2,500
- 500L receiver tank: approximately $800-$1,500
- Copper or stainless interconnect piping, fittings, drain valves: approximately $300-$600 installed
Total direct drive build cost: approximately $9,639-$11,139 before installation labour.
The AIO at $12,000 includes all of the above in a single cabinet, factory-tested, with no field plumbing. The effective premium for the plug-in convenience and smaller footprint is approximately $860-$2,360 - substantially less than the headline price difference suggests. For a new installation with no existin compressed air infrastructure, AIO is frequently the lower-cost path when total installed cost is the measure.

HankeMotor stocks oil-injected rotary screw air compressors for industrial and workshop applications requiring continuous, reliable compressed air. Unlike piston (reciprocating) compressors, rotary screw units run at 100% duty cycle — they can operate non-stop without rest periods or overheating. All units are dispatched from our Glen Waverley, Victoria warehouse.
Screw vs Piston: Which Compressor Fits Your Duty Cycle?
The choice comes down to how long your compressor runs per hour:
Rule of thumb: if your compressor runs more than 40 minutes per hour, a rotary screw will cost less to run and last longer. If it runs 20 minutes per hour or less, a piston compressor is more cost-effective for the initial purchase.
Selecting the Right Screw Compressor
Size by free-air delivery (FAD) in CFM or L/min — not by motor kW. The CFM rating must exceed your total tool demand at the operating pressure you need (typically 7–10 bar / 100–145 PSI for workshop use).
All rotary screw models in this range require 415V three-phase power supply. If you have single-phase 240V only, see the piston air compressor range.
Installation Requirements
Do rotary screw compressors need a receiver tank?
A receiver tank is recommended even for rotary screw units. The tank acts as a buffer for demand spikes, reduces short-cycling of the load/unload system, and provides storage for the refrigerated dryer to work against. Minimum tank sizing: 10 litres per CFM of compressor output.
What is the service interval for an oil-injected screw compressor?
Oil change and filter service typically occurs at 2,000 to 4,000 operating hours depending on the manufacturer and operating conditions. Separator filter, oil filter and air filter are replaced at the same service.
