Dust and water rating
IP66 is a rating under IEC 60529: the first 6 means dust-tight, the second 6 means protected against powerful water jets from any direction. The rating only holds if every cable entry is sealed with a gland of the same rating or better.
Where to use it
For indoor switchboards and plant rooms, painted steel does the job and costs less. Seal the edges of any holes you drill so they do not rust.
